Financial incentives for scholarly publications
A financial incentive is paid directly to faculty members as an addition to their salary in April of every calendar year, subject to the following rules:
Only permanent employees of the Faculty are eligible for this incentive.
The reference period for the incentive is two calendar years prior to the payment (e.g. payment in April 2012 results from publications in 2010).
An amount of R18 000 is paid per article in an ISI/IBBS-listed journal and R12 000 each for articles in other journals on the list of Accredited Journals.
Visiting scholars programme
The Faculty encourages international cooperation and raises the Faculty's research profile through two initiatives:
The first is for a once-off short visit (i.e. fewer than 4 weeks). R20 000 is available per visit, with a maximum of R50 000 per department per year.
Applications must be submitted to the Faculty Committee.
The second initiative is aimed at longer visits (i.e. 1 to 6 months).
Departments may apply for funding under this scheme, but with a two budget-year gap between visits.
