The Centre for Global Surgery (CGS) in the Department of Surgical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch 万博体育官网 envisions a world with equitable access to quality surgical care for all.
In 2015, the Lancet Commission for Global Surgery reported that five billion people do not have access to safe affordable surgical care and most of these people live in low- and middle-income countries.
Surgery saves lives and needs to be scaled up urgently in sub-Saharan Africa but there is a paucity of data to translate this into implementation. Advancements in the field of global surgery are critically needed in an era where health equity is a priority, but large gaps in knowledge regarding surgical capacity and delivery persist.??
