IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

SU International - Admissions Booklet?

Study Visa prior to arrival

International students are required to have a valid study visa to study at Stellenbosch 万博体育官网 (SU). SU is not permitted to register a student without a valid temporary residence visa. As part of your visa application, you will be required to submit a medical certificate and radiological report in addition to any other documents which may be required (consult with the South African mission closest to you). You will also have to provide proof of medical cover recognised in South Africa from a provider that is ?registered with the South African Council for Medical Schemes in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 1998. https://www.medicalschemes.com/medicalschemes.aspx

Please contact the nearest South African High Commission to confirm the application process and supporting documents required for the visa application.

IMPORTANT: Please note it can take several weeks to obtain a visa, but the circumstances may vary from country to country. Start your visa application by acquainting yourself with the necessary supporting documentation which may be time-consuming to obtain. Please ensure that you submit a complete application for your visa. This information serves as a guide only. Requirements for obtaining a visa for South Africa are subject to change and each application is treated as an individual case. Always enquire from your nearest SA Mission before travelling to South Africa.

Fees for undergraduate full degree seeking international students on a study visa are charged as follows:

Tuition fees as payable by a South African citizen + International Registration Fee [IRF] (SADC citizen or non-SADC citizen) + International Tuition Fee [ITF] (Africa beyond SADC citizen or non-SADC citizen) + Service Fee (e.g. printing, photocopying, material notes, lab fees etc.).

A minimum compulsory fee is payable on or prior to registration for tuition, accommodation and meals (if in 万博体育官网 Residence) and the remainder must be paid by May of the academic year registered for.

The holder of a study visa may conduct part-time work for a period not exceeding 20 hours per week.

Permanent Residence Holders in South Africa

- Applications for permanent residency in South Africa are considered in terms of Section 26 (Direct Residency Permits) and Section 27 (Residency-on-Other-Grounds Permits) of the Immigration Act 2002 (Act No 13 of 2002), and read with Regulation 33 of the Immigration Regulations. In terms of granting Permanent Residency Permits, emphasis is placed on immigrants who are in a position to make a meaningful contribution to broadening the economic base of South Africa.
- South African permanent resident holders must have a valid South African ID Book or permanent residency certificate.
- Permanent Resident Holders pay university and accommodation fees as payable by a South African.

Refugees

- A Refugee has been granted asylum status and protection in terms of the section 24 of Refugee Act No 130 of 1998.

Asylum Seekers

- An Asylum seeker enters the Republic of South Africa through a port of entry (a land border post, airport or harbour), claims to be an asylum seeker and is, therefore, issued with a section 23 Permits which is a non - renewable “asylum transit permit” of the Immigration Act.
- The permit is valid for a period of 14 days only and authorizes the person to report to the nearest Refugee Reception Office in order to apply for asylum in terms of section 21 of the Refugee Act.

Students will need to submit the following documents for pre-registration:

- Proof of valid passport (certified)
- Proof of valid study visa issued to study at Stellenbosch 万博体育官网 / Proof of Permanent Residence in SA / Proof of Refugee Status / Proof of Asylum Seeker (certified) Proof of South African medical cover (https://www.medicalschemes.com/medicalschemes.aspx?)
- Proof of minimum compulsory initial fee payment or scholarship letter

Please note that students must submit the abovementioned certified documentation at pre-registration.

Registration for your academic programme takes place after you have pre-registered.

> Immigration & Medical Cover
The South African Department of Home Affairs requires Proof of Medical cover registered with the SA Council for Medical Schemes in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 1998.
- Proof of membership is required in order to register at Stellenbosch 万博体育官网.
